Established on March 1, 1864, Shanghai General Hospital is one of China’s earliest‑founded and largest‑scale general Western medicine hospitals. It has now developed into a large‑scale Grade‑A tertiary general hospital. On July 3, 2023, the new Building 7 at the North Campus (Hongkou Campus) of the hospital was officially put into use. The hospital boasts 1 National Clinical Research Center, 1 Key Discipline of the Ministry of Education, and 8 National Key Clinical Specialty Development Projects. It has a designed total of 550 hospital beds with an average daily patient volume of around 2,000.
